EA first sold in March 1988. EA2 sold from October 1989.

Just remembered...the 2 front doors on my EA when new didnt close properly. It leaked like a sieve. Water used to pour in onto the driver seat. From inside the car you could look out and see daylight. For real, thats how it was delivered. The cure was to put a knee on the the top of the door card, grab the top of the door frame and bend it in about 3cm. The first of the EAs also had seal problems. One of their suppliers were crap and all the gaskets, engine seals etc fell to bits prematurely, as in 50000ks. Ford replaced them all under warranty ...maybe cause it was a company car.

Use E-Series V8 internals, the planetaries with the oiling holes and an EF-AU pump (apparently the EA-ED pump is too powerful and causes unnecessary drag on the box... and the BA pump is basically made from playdough) with kevlar bands and clutches.

apart from the exhaust my ea is just as quiet as my bf and just as air/water tight,if not better. and the thing i hate about post e series is even when you open the window the slightest bit in the rain it seems to act like a water vortex and sucks in as much water as possible, right on to the p/window switches!
It's true they weren't perfect from the factory. what family car is ? Thats what fordmods are for 8-)
