Hi there, first off, thanks for the tip on starting my EF with a sharp slap just above where the left knee sits(BCM)...husbands workin away and car is ready to retire but got me out of trouble. Planning on upgrading with about $3000 to spend and lookin at ex taxi BA for $2200 with RWC but like AU's better so any experiences, suggestions would be appreciated
thanks again

i think you would be better of with a non taxi au over an ex taxi ba...
an au in your price range would have around 200-250'000km
and an ex taxi ba would have close to or more than 500'000km on it..

we picked up our au2 fairmont for my mrs with 185000km for $3000 private sale and its an awsome car..

BA would be better however the Taxi bit you would at least need to budget for some costly maintenance on top of the purchase. $3K would be better spent on the EF or the AU.

Well i paid $3000 for my AU on road with 6 months rego and good km's (it's pictured in my signature)

My dad used to have an EA ex-taxi he paid $300 for it, then spent $2500 repairing it and sold it for $500. ex-taxi's are not worth the trouble.

Dont get an excab if you can avoid it or unless you plan on fixing the lot anyway.

BA parts are cheap as s**t anyway so I'd likely still go a BA if you are intent on only buying an ex cab.

Thanks for all the input...apart from the k's, why are taxis so bad...thought they had to have regular inspection/maintenance .The Ef recently has started having the domino effect starting with head gasket and trans, radiator, aircon(twice in one year) so I'm over it and feel like a change anyway

taxis generally just get a flogging where ever they do and arnt treated with much respect.

plus the really high Ks mean there very rough and falling apart.

plus a higher model AU interior or even just a forte will be much nicer then the ba taxi pack interior.

Very true the EA ex-taxi had vinyl floors, bench seat, column shift and holes in the interior from the meters.
