AU-III XR6 VCT into EL
Has anyone tried this conversion? I have an AU series 3 XR6 VCT that I'm fitting to an EL wagon. The engine is in. I have the engine loom, dash loom, ECU and body control module to work with. My auto sparky is trying to sort through the Smartshield issues, apparently everything runs through it to the gauge cluster and ECU. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Joe. PS: WHY? Because I can!! |

hi bullfrog im no expert but a SEARCH on the forum would be good idea as there are plenty of motor swaps from au's going into e series falcon these days. for the money you spend sorting this out plus all your extra mods and whatnot you could prob get a 2nd hand ba falcon for the same price

i think it was troyman the one with the white ed that did an au xr6 vct conversion so it would be good to ask him

i forgot to add you should sell your car and get a de-lorean with the flux capacitator like from back to the future. that way you can go back in time and search the forum before asking about your engine swap

I've already done a search, but most conversions(including Troymans) use the EB/EL ECU. I want to use the AU ECU and associated bits.
Joe. PS: I've PM'd Troy. |

you might aswell buy an au then. its a hell of a lot easier using the existing ecu and getting a j3chip and tune to suit

ive done it but i didnt use the au loom, to much mucking around with smartshield and difference in looms ect.. i used el ecu with a el manifold and a modified ed loom.. that way it stayed smartlock and used a jaycar rpm switch to switch the vct at 3000rpm... easy!!
but in the end i got more power by ditching the vct cam and vct cam gear and fitted a non vct wade au1645 cam and vernea gear.. |

How does the VCT work with the BBM signal? Is it progressive or just on and off?

its not hard to use the AU loom, ECU, BEM and smart shield/lock setup. I swapped all the engine bay harness over (engine bay is more AU than EL thou), dash loom etc, then re joined the rear harness. It all seems to work how it should

It all seems to work how it should I'm doing just that, swapping everything over from an AU, including the rear loom. A bit of time fitting everything neatly. We had ignition last night. Now just to finish it off. Regards Joe. |

I can sell you the entire loom if you want....old car has been written off. it has been modded to accept EL climate control and AU cluster
