what is it?
Attachment: if i unplug it while the motors running the revs pick up by 100-200 rpm, still runs/drives okay. same as above if i turn the motor off and start it within 5 or 10 mins, but if i leave it any longer, it starts fine, but then nearly stalls, idles like its running off 2 cylinders and misses badly when the throttle is opened. reason im asking is because my xg is using alot of water, like 1-5ltrs per 100k depending how hard i push it. (but no visible external leaks ) when it has low water it runs like s**t until i unplug this sensor, or untill i fill it up again.

cheers. was guessing that, but wasnt sure, because the temp sensor for the dash gauge is underneath it, thought they mightve used the same sendor..

The small sender underneath is fir the temp gauge and the large one in the pic is for the ecu..

if its using water and you can't see where its going (not external)...
Most likely you've done a head gasket and its leaking into a cylinder... Otherwise... You've done a head gasket and its leaking down the side of the motor somewhere... Or other possibility is you have leaking welsh plugs? Cheers, Tim

shouldnt be the welsh plugs, did them all a few months ago. i did check all the visible ones about a week ago and couldnt see any leaks..
as far as i can tell, its either the head gasket or its leaking where the steel pipe dissapears around the back of the motor and then under the exhaust manifold.

i used to run coolant, but since its started leaking like a sieve ive only been running water. i cant afford to put a bottle of coolant through it every 200 or 300 kms.

yeah thats understandable... if its always had coolant not likely to be that steel pipe... most likely the head gasket...

sorry to hijack old post but i can i tap into this for the eb sensor that goes in the water botlle for the the sports dash cluster the little light with the fan on it ???

You can wire up the sensor. Ive done it on my Au. Its dead simple, the low coolant switch is just a resistance switch when the float drops down it raises resistance and the light comes on.
Use a workshop manual to figure out which wires need to be connected (providing you have the loom that suits the cluster) and run the two wires from sensor to cluster. I did this on my au and the connector plugs and ~10cm of loom had to be used from an xr6 as the needed wires didnt exist in the forte wiring loom, then you just reconnect all the rest up again. |
