Hi guys,
I need to replace the ignition barrel in an NF, will any EF/EL series barrel do or must it be from an NF or NF?
Not sure if the plug has any differences?
Cheers.

Hi, do you need to replace the complete barrel, or just the lock assembly?

Is smartlock not working due to a barrel issue, or is the prob to do with the steering lock? If so, the whole barrel should be replaced, and you can transfer your lock into the barrel. Yes, you can use any E series barrel that has smartlock.

If it is a lock issue, then you can just replace the lock.

Hi,
smartlock is working, it's just that it's very difficult to turn the key, takes a lot of jiggling, so I assumed it would be the barrel is no good?

I tracked one down at a local wrecker, out of an NF Fairlane, $88?

I've seen them on ebay for half that out of an EF, but I'm not sure if they would be plug and play?

Thanks.

Barrel and Key will will be ok from an EF, EL, AUI. Sounds like the tumblers are gone. I would check a NEW one first before you go buying a used one. A used one could have tumblers just as worn as yours.

Hi all,
I've got a new one to put in, however after taking off the access covers to the ignition assembly, there doesn't seem to be any bolts holding it in place? look like rivets?
Is there a doco on how to change the barrel?
Thanks.

You need to drill the 'tamperproof' bolts out Or use a cold chisel and tap it around.

Then you can remove the entire barrel and replace with Allen key bolts.

so is that the only way to replace the lock? seems like an enormous amount of work when only a small push down pin holds the lock in place?

This is the method I have used to remove the barrel. The bolts Ford use snap off at the correct tension, leaving the round head to stop thieves from just replacing the barrel quickly.

It isn't that hard, just takes a bit of time and patience.

so you got to go through the barrel from the wiper switch side? Cant just pull the lock out from the indicator side?

OK, if you are just replacing the ignition lock, the bit where the key goes in, then you have to remove the lower, and possibly the upper shroud. Then turn the key to ACC and using a small allen key or stiff wire push the pin in and withdraw the lock.

To get the complete barrel off, you have to remove the upper and lower shrouds, and then using a small drift and a hammer, rotate the two screws in an anti clockwise direction to remove them.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and please go and buy a Gregories or similar. All this stuff is in there.
