Well there is gonna be a new (well second hand new) Ford in the B&L house. Yay
We are buying a mates 94 telstar to do up for a daily while we rebuild the wifes Hundy. Then it will go to one of the kids probably.
Need some advice from you guys in the 4 pot section though
The star has had an idle problem since our mate bought it but he isn't into fixing cars. Or should I say he isn't into paying for it. Lol
When it idles it is as rough as a rough thing. Vibrates like it has a full race cam in it.
When driving it goes quite well, but he just looked over my shoulder and told me that it don't idle at all now. Gonna make for fun getting it home as with the slightest bit of rev under the foot the dam thing breaks out.
Could it be a computer problem. It isn't plugs or leads as I made him buy some a while back and also he did fuel and air filters so that is kinda out
Any ideas for me to try before I spend any money
Oh and BTW
The bear mobile is back and running with an EL box in it. Just had to change the bell housing and put my AU one back on it. Just need to get a new battery and the bear is free to roam Brissy again

Does that have a carby or is it EFI???

If carby might be just idle mixture or choke stuck on... There is also a Idle solonoid that may be disconnected or not getting 12v supply....

Been ages since I have played with one of these, so I could be wrong

Dont worry. I won't let your missus k now you admitted that. She could make good use of knowing you could be wrong.
All to you discomfort.

I have found and tell my 4 sons that the best way to please a woman is to do what she wants when she wants.
My darling wife told me to tell you that a woman is never wrong.....and a man is only right when he is arguing with somoone other than his wife....lol
But I know I am always right...I just don't let her know she is wrong

Oh yeah the problem...the car is injected.......but I have been informed that the car has a valve similar to the old water operated chokes.....when it is cold it increases the idle speed and then when the water is hot it opens a valve via a spring (like the thermostat) that makes the idle slow down to normal.
The vale and surrounding hoses can become clogged with gunk causing the spring to stay slightly open. This causes the car to think...ooohhh its cold...oohh no its hot..cold..hot and so on whichtherefor fluctuuates the throttle position and makes the rough idle..can....and apparently has to me....cause the car to not run at idle at all. Have to have the car on at least 1500 to keep it running. let it drop to 1400 and it coughs once and says f**k ya i am tired and goes to sleep

LOL....

I would take it like most older EFi cars it has a airflow meter on the airbox???
I would almost bet its that causing your problem......

The valve I was talking about is called a BAC Valve
To test it you have to remove it and run hot and cold water through it to see if the valve operates. It increases the idle speed if closed, (cold water) and slows the idle if open, (hot water)
It works in conjunction with the idle air control valve n the throttle body.
Learnt all this through the Mazda 626 MX6 workshop manual that was supplied to me online through a guy on the telstar TX5 forums page. Very handy website along the lines of this one that is dedicated to the telstar 626 family of drivers.
Any further joyous infformation I can gleen from them I will pass on to this site.

By the way does anyone know of any telstar or small ford type car rallies or drives that go on in the Brisbane gold coast area. A few of the guys on the other site are interested.
Thanks for your feed back ford lovers
