I need an oil change, and ive beeen reading soo many threads concerning oils, thick oils are
better, no, thin oils will suit you, synthetic vs mineral. :?:
Frankly, Im lost.
I have an EB that had done 270k, (when the odometer stopped), theres low compression,
so im assuming theres a bit of topend wear. Im leaning towards a thinner oil, cant afford synthetic,
unless it will make a significant improvement to engine life, perfomance etc.
AAnybody got ant advice please?
manual says:
Grade: SAE 15W-40 'SG\CE'
Viscosity: 10W-30 or 10W-40

I dont even get the diff between grade & visc.

Im leaning towards 5W-30, from what I've read, what do you think

Thanx heaps for any input guys

matt

heavier and thicker oil is what you want. too light it will run away from the parts you are trying to lubricate.

Try something like HPR 15 its a 15w - 60, or a HPR 30. its a 20w - 60 if you find its still burning a bit.

Valvoline 20-50. Its thicker then the recommended and dirt cheap.
My old ED used to run 40/70 oil the motor was that rooted.

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around!

why not just replace the engine, it will go sooner or later!
270k aint f**k all, but if it hasn't been looked after it's a different story

thanx for the tips guys, an engine swap is planned but I don't know how long until I'll have the room, tools, time etc to put it in. so I may even save the money and put it towards the new engine, which will be getting a workover/newfluids etc anyway.
