hi guys. Was just wanting to know: has anyone done an overhaul of their stock sound system in their fg as im keen to do this but not sure whether to install second head unit or try to adapt the stock one to carry a 4 channell amp for the six inchs in the door and 6 x 9s behind the seats in my ute, i am looking at infinity cappa series six inch splits for the doors, not sure about the 6x9s ( suggestions welcome ) am possibly thinking one sub also but not sure if i can run one amp from the stock head deck let alone one for speakers and one for sub. Some help would be much appreciated and photos if possible thanks!!

How much work are you looking to put into it?
I'd say keep the stock h/u and use the speaker line input on the amp. Saves you having to put another h/u in but you will need to run some wire from the front speakers to the amp and back. Have a look into mounting a small 4 channel amp either underneath the seats or under the glovebox if there is room. Makes the distance shorter for everything and should make it a bit easier. Make it look as stock as possible too. Just my thoughts Cheers Sam

thanks mate yeah im with you on the stock look its my aim, im pretty keen on hiding the amp and stuff so the glove box idea sounds really good! Looking to spend about 1500 absolute max, labour isnt a problem tho as im an electrician so it will be a diy job.

Did you get what i was talking about with the speaker line input on the amp?
With that budget id say maybe consider: Alpine digital 4 channel amp (prob about $4-500 but they are really small and sound great) Rockford fosgate power components ($300) Should sound really nice! Cheers Sam

Yeah id keep your original unit and run an amp that has the speaker input, it would be less stuffin around and look stock

Nah. Normally on 2 and 4 channel amps there is a 2 or 4 channel speaker wire input for integration with stock h/u or h/u without rca outputs. Run the remote wire to the cig lighter or similar acc.
Cheers Sam

thanks for the help sam. Yeah i got what you mean now should be sweet. Dont know why car companies cant just make stock units with like 2 rca pre outs especially in a car that is popular amongst enthusiusts that is highly likely to be modded.
Thanks- chris

hey mate I just got my fg ute done. Replaced the front 6in and rear 6in. have 12inch sub and an amp under the pas seat running the sub and front speakers. I got it done at an AUTOBARN store. I am sure you can get a rca converter to put behind the head deak. It is all Clarion stuff and only cost me $700.
