Hey all, without any problems i replaced the air filter with a K&N, now it hunts.
EL, lpg, dunno if petrol does it to. I had a play with the ignition timing, just left it as it was. It stalls at times, hesitates from idle. Nothing serious, no backfiring, it's being serviced tomorrow morning i just thought i'd post to see if anyone knew how to fix it, might save me a few bob! If it's found to be a K&N thing i will seriously push four fingers into their a**hole without any foreplay whatsoever. ALso, the OCAU forums, google it, biggest pack of f**k wit pansy's... lol Matt

Has it got any mods, esp cam?
My EF was fine when I put in a K&N, but a few years after that when I put in a Wade 1636 it hunted until I reset the base idle. That was on both gas & petrol.

i think he means resetting the ecu. also over-oiling can be a problem with these filters making them do funny things to. under oiling is also bad as dust enters the intake, this makes baby jesus cry.

Likely only on LPG and it will be due to the balance pipe that goes from converter to airbox. Remove kn if you want it to idle properly on LPG.

Gas_Man,
I have a EB Xr8 on LPG with a K & N filter, no hunting of idle. You have not disturbed the balance pipe when you fit the filter? Ie, it's leaking air, or slipped off a fitting somewhere? As for the OCAU forums, yeah, hence why I almost never post there anymore. Cheers ToranaGuy

Gas-Man, did you fit a pod or panel k&n filter?

Not true,( in my case at least) balance pipe affected idle quality greatly.

ghia97 wrote: Not true,( in my case at least) balance pipe affected idle quality greatly. Its a panel filter. Balance pipe wasn't touched. Spoke to mechanic, its a vac leak somewhere, lol, eeasy fix, I'm getting the rotors done too. May as well get a rwc so it'll sell quicker. Cheers guys

It was / is a vacuum leak, and from all places, the knob on the isc (idle speed controller) has come off, why that is an open gallery i would like to know.
Wreckers wont just give me the knob, anyone got a good idea for a replacement? Seems all of my problems are vacuum related, lol Cheers

The whole idle air control unit shouldnt be more then $20 at a wreckers. Buy one, clean it out with carby cleaner, let it dry and you're good to install.
