Don't fill it up to 'Max' when cold, this is overfull and it will expel the extra water. It should sit about 'Min' when cold.

My EL was leaking a small amount of water and at first I couldn't work out where from. Then I took the heat shield off the exhaust manifold and noticed a small leak from the head gasket.

Yea that is where it sits when cold, I have been wondering how much is actually leaking and how much is being forced out because I may be overfilling it. (Was told to FILL it up) Im nervous about not topping it up incase it overheats, but as you say the level sits aroudn the min mark. Maybe it is happy there. |

Is it leakng while you're driving or in-between drives? If it's in-between it may be the beginnings of the water pump failing.

We have done every test we could think of and it seems there is no problem, turns out the Ford just seems to regulate the water level very low, MIN mark or just below.
But once it’s there it just stays and runs perfectly, no overheating etc.. Seems I was worried for a valid reason but it’s not actually an issue on my UTE. Will keep an eye on it though, thanks for all your help. |

On my 97 EL Fairmont the coolant level sits about 1cm above the full mark and doesn't change over a period of 6months(5000-8000km), so I think you have a problem???
