hey guys, i have an el wagon and just tonight i noticed smoke coming from behind my dash, i quickly pulled my positive terminal back on, and over the course of an hour or so i put it back on to find that my interior light will not turn on.
I have had the dash face off, but the smouldered wire reaches way up into the dash, and i suppose it is a centre lamp wire.
I have tried tracing it. But as i said it goes way up into the dash and would really like to avoid pulling my whole dash out.
Is there anyway i can sort of bypass that wirem and run new wires down from the roof to anything? Perhaps a wire on the bem?
Any help would be appreciated!
I hate electrical problems.

Does the car still start and run?If yes keep reading. You're doomed. You can find both ends of the burnt wire you may be able to replace it.But seriously you are (^$&@$ .Usually when a wire melts and is in a wiring harness ,it has a tendency to melt all the insulation plastic into a nightmare and is a total pain in the a*** to repair.More than likely it will be a dash out job .Very difficult to say what is the best route to take.Get someone [autoelectrician] to have a look.If it is a dash removal you can do it yourself and score a used harness and fit it.Good luck Kevman.

It's bad when you let the smoke out, you can never get it back in...

bypassing is still only a bandaid. you have to find the problem. theres a reason auto leckies charge what they do, i have alot more respect for them now hehe.

something must have changed though, perhaps something you've added previously? factory harnesses don't regularly burn out for no reason.
