Hey guys,
Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but i have an au2 fairmont ghia and noticed last week that my cruise control has stopped worked. This is only a recent problem, the cruise will turn on, as it is displayed on the dash, but will not set speed. I have checked fuses etc and all are fine.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Or is anyone able to explain to me what else may be wrong? I would assume there is some sort of pressure switch near the brake pedal the deactivate the cruise, have not checked this yet.

pretty sure i have read if you have a brake light out it can effect the cruise control also. (dont ask me how)

there are 2 brake switches, 1 just above the brake pedal (this also controls brake lights) so if your brake lights aren't stuck on its not this one and the second is a pressure switch screwed into the master cylinder, you could just unplug it and use a small piece of wire to bridge the loom to test it...

You should have something that looks like this, the 2 lines towards the rear are brake lines (ABS?) and the empty one on the front of this is the brake pressure switch (this ones blank because i assume it doesn't have cruise fitted) just disconnect the loom from the switch and join the loom wires...

test in a safe place and be ready to turn cruise of if the brake switch doesnt... lol

Check you tail lights, if they are out you wont be able to set it. Had the same problem in my EF. It needs the brake lights to complete the circuit.

+1 for checking the brake lights. It's quite a common problem for one tail light to be out creating an open circuit.
