I have a 1997 EL series futura. Having done 315000 kms trouble free I now have an electrical problem which baffles me no end. I switch on the ignition to accessory point and all electrics work. As soon as I start the car all electrics cut out - no radio, no window motors, no mirrors, no wipers etc etc etc. However engine runs perfectly and drives fine. Can anyone point me in the direction where I need to look

its very possible, the back of the ignition barrel has come apart.
Its a fairly common issue... remove the shroud and investigate the 'staked' on contacts. You may be able to press it back on and re-stake it back, or just replace it.

it is the Ignition barrrel i had the same problem and took the easy way out and put a couple of wires on the back of the barrel to a switch so if it happens i just flick the switch and have all accessory"s back on

Hi Guys - Many thanks for the speedy reply. will check it out. One thing I did not mention is that this does not occur every time. Normally when it does happen I simply switch off, take out the key, insert it again and start the car and everything works - until the next time. Could be early stages of what you guys mention. will check it out and let you know
