gday all i have a 1994 ef fairmont ghia and since i have owned it is got a horrid vibration, it only dose it when in reverse or drive with your foot on the brakes.

when i park or netural the car idols and runs like a dream.

a bit of histroy on the car, 257000kms had change over motor due to broken timeing chain guide, had a trans servive befor i bought the car, still has original trans

what can this be?

engine mounts have sagged causing the vibration, generally the drivers side goes first.

how hard are the engine mounts to replace?

prob not the problem but i had an annoying vibration weneva i put the car in reverse the car would make an annoying noise and vibrate slightly, neutral was fine. it turned out to be my exhaust tip knocking against the side of my body kit

warped brake rotor?

But I would suggest its probably your drive shaft, undo it and rotate everything one hole, do it up again, check it, its only 4 bolts, you can do it yourself, its a non-cost option to try and resolve before you hand it to someone who may charge.

Keep rotating the drive shaft through 360' to try and eliminate the vibration. You may also want to try a different drive shaft incase yours is warped.

I normally dont drive with my foot on the brakes unless I am stopping..... Like most people I would have assumed.....

Sounds like a warped brake rotor... possibly the rear drivers side by your description....

if it was a warped brake rotor wouldnt it do it as the car is coming to a stop?
