I think it cost me $60 off for a Kincrome 14mm impact socket and 75odd cm bar. Not what I'd call expensive by any means.

WD40 is a penetrating oil with a much lower viscosity than engine oil, that is all - even though I did not mention it, that is just a thought.

when i had a stuben head bolt ive just used
a 14mm 1/2 inch impact socket
600mm breaker bar
and if the still dont come loose i get a mate to lightly tap the back of the socket while i turn it
comes off every time
haven sheared/rounded a bolt yet

You're not gonig to get anywhere with those tools.

If you have to go cheap, get 1/2 drive, you're current tools are way to weak.

is it possible to remove the head with the inlet manifold still attatched?
Removing the manifold is the part that's putting me off taking my cyl head off =/

You can, but it's gonna be a hell of alot easier to remove the manifold first.

You don't need to remove the intake manifold. You just unbolt it from the head, there are two support brackets that will hold it in place.

The unbolting bit is the part that makes me want to roll the car into a lake.. i have the worst time trying to get those darn intake bolts off for some reason =/

It's a right royal pain. But I found that with a good 10mm spanner and a 10mm 1/4-drive socket with swivel and extension - and a lot of patience - it can be done successfully. Clearly, Ford did not intend the manifold to be removed with the engine in the car - but then, they only have to put it together :roll:
