hi all....just wondering if anybody can help?
I have recently removed the gearbox from a 97 transit 2lt petrol which had no drive and making a loud screeching noise when you release the clutch. What i found was that the splines have been torn out of the hub of the clutch disc about half way along indicating tht the input shaft was only engaged half way into it. The owner has told me that the clutch and box were done 2 years ago but not sure exactly what was done to the box. possibly another gearbox has been fitted, so im wondering if maybe there is a difference in petrol vs diesel boxes or wrong clutch fitted or soething like that. Can anybody find any specs for gearbox differences or offer any suggestions?

Diesel and Petrol gearboxes in Transit Vans. The clutches are different and the flywheels and also the front spigot shaft.

hmm thanks. i am not sure what is the exact problem. i asked the owner to find ou from the previous repairer what was done and they are telling me that the original box was reco'd. i since found out that diesel and petrol boxes were slightly different in the input and output but would like to get measurements if i can and see if theymatch up to what i have got. might mean i will have to put mine next to another box too
