Hey Guys,
One of my surrounds has faded to the point that a bit of it (area below the window) has become coa_rse. So I thought I could just get the exterior plastics painted and clear coated, much like in the doco, but by an actual spray painter. I know that there is a technical doco about repainting the window surrounds, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has had this done professionally. Also I wanted to know if the paint will peel. My local panel beater told me that it would; although I don't think it will peel if you use plastic primer. The panel beater also said that there is a Meguiar’s product that would fix it, but I doubt that it would seeing the state that they are in. Any comments or advice are greatly appreciated. Regards, Fu7ura |

Because the car is in such an immaculate condition (except for the surround), I’d prefer to have someone with the proper equipment and materials fix it.

I've done it myself on mine, came up a treat at first, but no starting to peel a touch. They are flexible on the trailing edge (into the door jamb) and that is where they will crack.
Having said that, they aren't terrible. Some of the other bits I did at the same time though... |

When they were first done, check page 9 of my build thread (link in sig) For current... yes I do mind! nah, not really, but I am away from home for about 3 weeks for work, so I won't be able to get any photos any time soon. Basically, the very trailing edge is peeling a little, other than that still good. The window moulds (that run along the lower edge of the window) are in good condition, although they came out s**t originally. The window rubbers peeled in about 2 months and are now f**k. Mirrors and cowl are still perfect (except where I took a chunk out of the cowl when I put the bonnet on one time). Rear window peeled like a b**ch quickly as well, it's very flexible. |

ahh ok thanks,
i'll only be painting the surrounds and trim under the windows. now the question is how to stop the surrounds from peeling, would it pay to spray the edge of the surroung slightly, ie cover behind the door frame and spray paint into it? |

I did mine a few years back.
The first time i did it at home with a can of black from the $2 dollar shop.. The second time i cleaned up the trims put some plastic primer and i used matt black from work. Been in the sun for ages and they look the same as when i fist did it |

Anyone get them done professionally? Mine look as though they have been sandblasted in spots and need them done, same things happening on the rear window. Rest of the car is very clean, cant stand looking at them.
