if u went to a 3.7 or 3.9 gear ratio i reckon you'd notice a difference in acceleration

3.7 would be nice, i'd have to get an lsd fitted if i got that though because of the increased wheelspin at takeoff. Do you think with that change the xr should be able to pull infront of that new holden sv6?

True, but usually people don't account for that into equations as if you've got a car that can loose traction easily, then obviously you need fatter rears. Directly, traction does not relate to acceleration but I can see where you're headed.. All depends on how much power you have.

Yeah basically a stocker. I've got the 18's on it but i heard they were not as wide as the 17's, is this true?

not really, the rims may be different widths but u can but narrower tread on a fat rim and fat tread on a narrow rim, whats the tyre size/width?

On my wheel it says 245/40zr18. I'm pretty sure the 17's are 235/45. Does that mean the 17's are wider?

no your 18's are wider 245/40zr18 245 is the width 40 is the profile and 18 is the diamerter (size) 235/45zr17 would be a narrower wheel thats not a high in profile, and 1" smaller in diameter
