i have an AU fairmont and my front passenger window won't go up. All other windows work fine and that one worked perfectly until it suddenly wouldnt go up. is there any way to tell what the problem is and how to fix it as i would love to be able to fix it myself instead of giving money to the mechanic.
Thanks |

its an electric window yeh? well the regulator has most likely died and has to be replaced. its an easy job, just remove the door trim and punch out the rivets that hold the regulator and motor. im not sure how much a replacement regulator will cost but im sure you can try email the site sponsor fern tree gully auto salvage and they will hook you up, i got my one from there

You might want to have a look at the switch for that window - the internal contacts may just need cleaning. You can also pull the passenger door cover and apply 12v to the motor (change polarity to ensure it goes up & down)just to see if the motor is actually at fault.

This might sound stupid, but another thing u can do is simply open the door and slam it shut (If you haven't already.) It happens to my EL fairmont sometimes and this seems to work.

Thanks for the replies, i have taken the door trim off now what would be the best way to get to the switch/regulator/motor as the window is down it seems to be in the way?
Thanks again |

9/10 times on AU's it will be one of the switches.. try swapping the passenger door switch with one of the rear ones, if hte problem follows that switch, replace that switch, or cleaning the contacts may fix it... failing that id be looking the the drivers switch...

Mine does that everynow and then, only started a couple of months back, the left front would not go up in pissing down rain, i quickly headed for cover, but it just started working again. Everynow and then the drivers one does it to, press up & nothing, just press again and it works again. So id be thinking switches, i just give em a bit of a bang if they dont work & it can fix em, i probably should pull them apart & clean the contacts one day.

Like xpression said, go for the switch contacts first, these regularly give trouble. Wish I had a dollar for every one I have had to clean at work.

well if the window goes down that means the regulator is not stuffed. so it must be the switch........thats what im thinking anyway.
hope that helps phong =P~

I have the same problem. Front left window won't go up. Went to ok. anyway I bought 2 NEW motors etc and still no joy. I tried a different relay under the dash, got a dent where i kicked the door, and it rattles from slamming it, but the stupid window still wont go up from either left or right switch.......
