Hi guys
I have a EF Fairmont and to be fair it has done a fair few K's. Over the last couple weeks, I have replaced a couple hoses and re did the spark plugs. Now the water is still slowly going down and I think it has something to do with one of the water hoses that goes towards the gas. Now I have noticed that after a drive and I leave the car sitting, I will go to check the overflow and take the cap off. As i do this, there is still alot of pressure and alot of water is released. Now i think there is a blockage somewhere but i dont know if this is normal or not thanks for any advice daniel |

To get rid of air in the cooling system you need to run the car at a fast idle with the cap off until the thermostat has opened. You'll know its open when the water in the header tank starts becoming hot. However excessive pressure in the cooling system when the engine has cooled is more than likely a head gasket, cracked head or porous head. where combustion gases enter the cooling system and pressurise it. You can get this checked by having a mechanic check for the presence of hydocarbons in the coolant. You may even be able to buy the kit yourself.

Seen it happen on many Fords, most of the time its the head gasket. Also look for any traces of oil in the coolant tank, that is the best indicator if you dont have a tester.

hey guys
thanks for the posts I'm just about to get out to the car and leave it on with the cap off. Also, Im having a problem with the gas at the moment which is leaving me to think there is a blockage somewhere. What is the best way to 'flush' the system? I have read it on other posts where there could be a blockage somewhere but im not exactly sure how to? Cheers |
