im beginning to think i work at the only decent dealership in the country.

Ask them where they get $200 labour when book time for replacing spark plugs is 0.9 Hours and that includes removal of the coils.

dealers charge over 120 and hour and you will fine good machanics only charge 66 and hour

show me a mechanic who has on hand 30000 worth of diagnostic tools (not counting special model specific tools) who works for $66 an hour
in fact, show me any mechanic who only charges $66 an hour retail

ha well my mechanic charges $55 per hour,,and can do everything ford can,,even better..

so he has a scantool that can reprogram the PCM with newest software, and read every fault code/PID, and code keys, and access to a database of technical service bullitins that tell him the common issues and the best way to fix them?
and dedicated workshop manuals for every vehicle he services?

updating the software is about the only thing ford can do that others can't. any decent auto elec. can read fault codes and most decent mechanics will know how to fix them at less than half the cost. the fancy tools and machines ford have are only as good as the clown pressing the buttons.

be careful what you say about dealership mechanics. I am one and i spent just about all day every day fixing stuff that other mechanics send to use because they cannot fix them.

either u worked at a dodgy dealer (and yes they exist) or you have no idea how a modern car works.

Let me put one scenario to you.
You have a BA falcon come into your non ford workshop with the following DTC's logged and a complaint of the ETC light coming on.

P2110, P1270 & P2105 only.
How would u fix the vehicle?

there are other forms of diagnostic equipment available apart from wds and pds systems. now from memory that fault was with the fly by wire accelerater prob and that p1270 is comin to mind as a tps sensor now i know these could be wrong as i havnt worked for the fraud dealership in over 14months i also put this to you a mitsubishi magna 1990 model comes in its a carby 2.6 electronic ignition and its not starting how would you go diagnosing this . ? my point been anyone can read a computer code but not alot can still do dianosis by thinkin

hey xpression,

I know this post is years old, but I have the same problem with my BA falcon as you quoted in your example.

I am not a mechanic, and I could use some advice about getting it fixed as the throttle body has already been replaced.

If you read this or someone else can help please let me know.

Thanks
