I have a ford fairlane NC [92model] automatic ,only just bought it.The car goes to 120 klm no trouble but will not go any faster,That makes it dangerous.I've also got an EF ,they've got same 6 cylinder motors, tried comparing bits against each other but can't find the problem. The cruise control doesn't work on the fairlane,I know jack about that, so I haven't touched that side of it.Has anybody any idea what the problem might be?There,s quite a few things I've replaced, new for old, and now I'm well and truly stumped. Thanks

Finally found the answer,it was the catylitic converter ,well replacing that has given me accelleration.Thanx for everybody's help.

With the old e-series with the log manifold the first thing to check is a stretched throttle cable(makesure the butterfly is opening fully)

Most likely to be the accelerator cable. On my ea the outer sheath became brittle where it passes over the exhaust manifold then a small section of the outer sheath broke off making the inner cable too long. You then can't get full throttle.

Easily checked by getting someone to press the pedal to the floor with the engine off, while checking if the cable is fully moving the throttle linkage
