hi guys
im having a few dramas with my eb xr8 .
sometimes i can start it up it will be fine.
i drove to the service station to fill it up the other day
when i came out and started it up it it stalled.
so i started it up again and i held the throttle on a bit
it ran but it was blowing some serous black smoke.
i mean ive never seen a petrol engine blow this much smoke before
i drove it home any way but it wouldnt rev past 2000 rpm it acted like
a carby engine with a blocked air filter. when i restarted it it was ok
every 2nd time i start it it does this
anyway ive checked the basics filter/elec conections.ect
i was going to try another ecu. the one that is in it.has
p.n::91da-12a650-ga....
the spare has p.n::91dt-12a650-da.
is there a difference in the 2 ecu's.
or does anyone know what my problem could be

Sounds like the fuel pump filter (the sock on the end of the fuel pump) may be blocked or the fuel pump itself is on its way out, both are fairly common especially with 10yo+ cars. And yeah you can easily change the EEC's over, the different part numbers just means they have a slightly different tune.

Black smoke indicates rich mixture. I would be checking the coolant temp sensor or other sensors that may be telling the ecu that the engine is cold and is richening the mixture to suit, like a choke being stuck on. maybe a wiring fault.

but when i said it was blowing black smoke
it was like petrol was being poured straight into the engine
there is so much smoke you cant see behind you.
i had to hold the throttle about 3/4 just keep it runing.
ive checked fuel tank/pump/filter.

any other ideas would be helpfull

Sounds like limp-home mode from the ECU... i.e fixed injector pulse width and no emission controls... charateristic black smoke... and LOTS of it.

Check the ECU fault codes - might be a sensor not working, something outta range.

Absolutely no idea on EB sorry. Is there a fuse panel next to your right knee? If so, have a look in there for some sort of plug. If it's a white plug with about 10 - 15 pins in it, then should be the same process as EF, which is explained in the documents section here.

Are you sure you got petrol and not a shandy of diesel

and i will give it a go...

as i had just filled up my other car at the same pump
and it has no problems
