Just wondering if anyone knows how to get the clutch off the front of the air conditioner compressor? The car is a 96 EL Fairmont. Last edited by switchx_o on Sat Apr 02, 2011 2:26 pm, edited 2 times in total. |

i have been their and done it to a eb ed,
take the belt off you need to find something to fit in to the 3 holes to stop the clutch from turning, and undo the nut, then you need a pair of cir clip pliers and take the clip out from under the nut once done the clutch should slide off i had to change a bearing in mine. hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah i think the bearings need to be changed, its got a whiney noise in the air conditioner clutch which goes away when u switch the air conditioner on, Where did you get the new bearings from? Do you remember what they cost? |

Do you remember what they cost? I completely rebuilt a Xf compressor, by removing the bearings and 'o' rings and taking them to a bearing and seal place. They matched them up for me. It was awhile ago but I remember the price was very reasonable, much cheaper than a new compressor.
