How fast can you go in fourth with a 1:3.28 DIFF.

Fourth is 1:1 ratio, so whatever your engine revs are doing is what the driveshaft is spinning at. Then work out diff ratio and wheel circumference. Hmmm.

Not even being a smart a**, I want to know as I was getting valve bounce in fourth a few places this weekend and had to fifth. As brakes were going off I didn't keep it floored in fifth for the two seconds it would have been worthwhile.... Anyway, valves start failing (so time to change up) at a bit over 6000. So, out of curiosity, I'd really like to know... How fast am I going at 6000rpm in fourth?

Edit - Found this... http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_speed_rpm.htm

Speed versus RPM Calculator
Engine Speed 6000 RPM
Transmission Gear Ratio 1:1
Differential Gear Ratio 3.25:1
Loaded Tire Radius 10 inches

Vehicle Speed 109.8 MPH
Copyright 2007-2010, Richard Shelquist

109.8 mile = 176.7 kilometres

This means that about the fastest I went on Sunday down that bit of road was shy of 200km/h. Which is all good as there are 130 degree corners at the end of the road that meant the a*** end of the car was trying to overtake the front under heavy brakes and down changing.... There was another bit of road where fifth was possible for a lot longer, but the four wheel slides to get around the right hander at the end were getting a bit rough, two left wheels just clipping the dirt in a twenty year old wagon at those sorta speeds is fun, but so was the 200km drive home!

Gotta stop driving like its a motorbike, but proud of the old s**t Ford brakes! Fastest ever gone was reading around 240 on the Ford EF speedo (reality could be achieved via saying 5500RPM in fifth gear - 0.72 ratio isn't it? - at 139.8 miles = 224.986 kilometres).

Reason for all this gibber?

I was damn sure I was quicker than a roll caged and slightly worked up Sylvia from 100 to 180... At least I was closer to him at the end of the straight than I was before it.....

Right, nighty night. Sorry to interrupt.

Where did I leave my ADHD pills anyway?

Yeah - It's showing in the "HOT TOPICS" section coz it's been looked at a few hundred times today. Maybe the GOOGLE bot has been running amok and adding to all the page counts?

Right. Sorry to interrupt again. I'm going to take some of the little blue pills now.

Nighty night.
