i believe they are slightly more aggressive in their mapping. But as with any 'xr6 parts vs aftermarket' you will see a much bigger gain from even a basic tune from someone like CVE or tiper performance who you can find here:

http://www.tiperformance.com.au/index.php

http://www.cveperformance.com/`

same goes for xr6 compression, xr6 cam and xr6 head. they are all better than standard but only by a small amount and you will see bigger gains from more compression, more aggressive cam and more porting of the head.

But then as always it comes down to how much you wanna spend but thats kinda off topic anyway :P

thanks for the advice man. yeah probably want to put extractors on as i've had a 2.5 inch exhaust installed, some lowered suspension and maybe a cold air induction. I want to to a bit to it but not a great deal to the engine. a mate said to try an xr6 computer so thought id ask some other opinions.

as you can probably see on the tiper website they will send you a chip with a generalised tune for $120 and a customised tune (better if you have swapped the cam etc) for $190.

I promise that both of these will have more aggressive timing than the xr6 computer while still being safe. Im not sure what else they change but it will make a much larger difference than a stock xr6 computer. Plus you can easily sell the j3 down the line and get most of your money back. selling a computer would be harder.
