Hey mate nice car!
I was just wondering if you had looked into the mounting issues associated with fitting a 302w into an xp. I have one at home in the shed and i really like the idea of a gt40 headed and cammed 5 ltr in her. Is there much work involved? |

Well I want to keep it somewhat era specific so i dont want EFI or anything.
and for me its about a balance of ecconomical too. to a 5ltr is i little bit much. but i hope you find out about how to mount something that size in. cause im sure that a 302 winsor from late 60's 70's xd's fits in with out too much modifying i have been told they just fit straight in. But i dont know much about any bigger motors sorry. |

You won't twist the chassis with a 5.0. The same car had a 289 in it from new in the U.S. and their bodies aren't as tough as the Aussie ones which, after XK were beefed up to handle our s**t roads.
From memory I've converted about 4 or 5 to 5.0 power over the years. Late 302's are also a little lighter than the early windsors. |

V8's fit but I would add a crossmember to strengthen chassis rails..
Plus shock to firewall bracket like the XP's.. Personally I would fit an AU EFI etc.. With disc brakes all round..

Yes hans, It's true they aren't as good as XR-up but the chassis itself is tough enough. I would certainly convert to five stud and have discs up front at the very least. Pretty sure XP utes/vans got 5 stud as std too. adams' XP should already have the shock tower brace too. All of the guy's that I did the conversions for loved them, especially the EFI...so much more torque and driveability. In fact one car was already a carbed 302 and i put the EFI on it...what an improvement this made! One guy was getting 30mpg with his XK ute which, btw had XR stubs and discs and a shock tower brace built to clear the EFI. |
