I have asked this before, but as a result of a stroke of genius(luck) i have stumbled onta a 351W dart block. This motor is currently assembled and has way to many parts to pass up for the price being offered. So my Q is how hard is it to fit this motor to my EF Fairmont Ghia

I'm pretty sure they will fit in a ute, but a ute has a higher bonnet. I think bonnet clearance will be an issue but you can probably get around that.
sorry I'm not of more help Luke

It seems that I was refering to Clevo's not a windsor
somone on another site wrote this Overall Length both 302 & 351 windsor measure the same at around 27.5 inches using short serpentine water pump as fitted to our EB-AU V8 Falcons otherwise add another 1.5 inches. This is when measuring from bellhousing face to water pump nose. Overall Width 302 is around 18.75 inches & 351 windsor is 21 inches wide and height wise mesuring from oil pan to manifold 302 is 20.75 inches and 351 is 23.75. So a 351 windosr is 3 inches taller & 2.15 inches wider then the 302 windsor. I don't see why the 351 windsor wouldn't fit. The only problem you might have is with the bonnet clearance but this will depend on the intake manifold you will be using. You will also need either custom extractors due to the taller deck off the 351 windsor or you can modify the 302 extractors. I've spoken with Darren from Di Fillipo exhaust not long ago and he told me that their extractors went on a 351 windsor which a customer fitted to an EL falcon ute so if i was you I would be talking to them guys first.

Brett FPV56L Will go but as was previously mentioned hood clearance is an issue. It will depend on your choice of intake though I'm not certain if any aftermarkets (short of a custom job) will clear? I'm putting a 391W into an ED. At 11.5" tall my Victor 5.0 intake hasn't a chance of getting under the hood. K-member clearance is an issue for use of a wide sump with the EB/ED's. I think the EF K-member is different though I'm not sure how you'll go clearing. No prob on the EB/ED's for modifying. A quick grind off of the spot weld folds and seem weld shut. Done. Rest should fit fine.

I am doing that exact conversion as we speak, and have had the 351 in the bay, all fits quite well, no major clearance issues, alternator is close to batt and steer pump is near air box, but not enough to cause any worries, hood clearance may be tight, I didnt even worry bout it, because I think the BA bulge could look rather cool on an EL bonnet, and if not that, a 93 Cobra R bonnet will do the trick.

Which one of your cars are you putting the 351 into, that would be one nasty FBT. I've never heard them called NLII's before. Was the 351W ever used in any Australian production models?

Nah, the FBT is dead set stock, with only the tyres and battery the only non original things on it. She has only just covered 40 000k, and does not get out very often. The stroker 351 is going into my XR8 sedan, should be good. I have some pics here of a Yates headed 351 Cleveland in an EF so they fit easily.
Lets get some big cube Falcs about guys..... |
