Righto, recently the FBT has been a b**ch to get going. You have to pump the throttle while its turning over to get it to start. Once started she is smooth as with no problems. Took her to ford and they said that the EGR valve was stuck open and they had cleaned it out and apparantley fixed it. Well after about 3 perfect starts she started doing it again.

How much are these to replace, anyone got any suggestions on what else it could be? Injectors? Throttle body?

Cheers

Hello Nomad.

I have a V8 DL LTD with the same problem, I had replaced the battery, starter motor and other parts to try and find a solution, to no avail. My mechanic also tryed hooking it up to the computer, but also nothing. One thing I found is that on really cold mornings (Melbourne has plenty!) the car fires without problem, as soon as the car is warm or the weather is warm, the car just cranks and wont fire.

I am no mechanic, but one thought I had is the cold start senser could be faulty (only working when cold hits 'extreme'. I hope to test this theory soon, by replacing it, just got to find the money!

Hope this helps.

Dom.

I had a similar problem on my XR8, and found the MAF to be faulty, get a hold of Shane and see what he can do.

There's not much point in pumping the throttle on an EFI engine. Most ECUs have a flood-clear mechanism built in to them - im not sure about eec... but basically if you plant your foot to the floor and turn the key - the ECU will not inject any fuel, as this is the procedure for clearing a flooded engine.

EGR is a reasonable suspect.... especially if cleaning it had the desired effect. If the EGR is stuck open, the engine wont idle and will be difficult to start.

Try this one... remove the vacuum line from the EGR valve and try to start the car.... however, if the valve is stuck open - this will not help....

Maybe try the good-old idle speed controller - these are flogged to full-open on a cold start and may be hurting you if it doesnt open properly...

Or just give her an italian tune up and see if it helps
