hi, ive recently bought this el xr6 and iam getting worried over the transmission, in summary i feel the side of the transmission eg side of the centre console is warm when i take the car out for a few squirts. its a hassle as their is no dipstick and i dont really want to take out the oil plug to have trans oil spill everywhere if the trans is filled with oil, i went out to buy the dud manual max ellery that tells me to 'unto the bolts' so i can flush the trans, which bolts???
also iam interested in buying the craig davies oil cooler has anyone used them or know if they actually work? also should i top up the oil , unplug the screw to drain or should i flush the whole trans??? p.s. what do u guys think of penrite sin10 (10w-70) is it a quality oil and is it better for my style of driving which is a bit on the hard side lol...... Thanks |

Each time I get a new second hand car, I always drop all the fluids. from Engine to Diff and a complete flush on the braking system, rebuild calipers if needed.
I would certainly run a trans cooler, you probably do not need to spend the coin on the davies craig ones, but you can if you want, I think the VS V8 trans coolers are a good option. It just gives you a known start point with the car. short of changing the timing chain and guides, this would pretty much be a major service on these cars. Oh, throw a set of plugs and leads at it as well and change you fuel, oil and air filters.
