Can it be done? I know one the EA/EB/ED it just screws one .. But I can't find anyway to remove the pully from the EF/EL ones ..
Its got a big hex/allen key at the front... Has anyone ever done this before? .. or is it just a totally unserviable item? .. P.S. the pully is bend! Was thinking about putting it into a vice and tring the allen key ... but there must be a easier way? ... cheers! antony. |

Im not a huge brain when it comes to the I6.
If its anything like the American-style fomoco pulleys on the V8's - its probably been pressed on. Can you poke "through" the hex socket and find a thread behind there? This is how the p/s pump is fitted to the windsor. The thread accepts the pully removal tool.

it is just pressed on. Not sure why you are removing it but fitting it must be done exactly square otherwise it will crack. When i replaced mine, after bartering a good deal with ford, they pressen the pulley to the pump for me (yes they come as two seperate items)

the pulley on the ef-el waterpump uses the same remover and re-fitting tool that is used for the power steering pump pulleys on most fords.
you ford dealer with have this tool and most dealers will remove your old pulley and refit it onto your new pump if you buy it through them. the genuine pumps are competitively priced so give them a try |

2 month ago I replaced the waterpump on my EL Fairmont. I had the same problem. I ended up taking the pump back to the shop I bought it, only to find they also sell them with new pulleys already pressed on them for home mechanics. Forget the Hex hole it is inside the shaft, the pulley is pressed on with hydraulic press.
Hope this helps

I recently changed the water pump on my EF I6 and I just snapped the old plastic one off as its recommended you upgrade to the steel pulley anyway. When I bought the new water pump i got a new steel pulley and just went down the road to the mechanic and the pressed the pulley on for free.

I just changed the water pump on my au series 1 6 cylinder, i just used a puller around the pulley steel nut and pushed on the shaft and it came off, then pressed the pulley onto the new one, then done the same with my brothers ef one the following weekend.
