I am currently using it on the high pressure line...and hasn't leaked for a week or 2...

The power steering switch on the rack commonly fails. My AU did it to me a couple months ago. You can't stop the leak with sealer or tape as it is under high pressure and leaking THROUGH the switch, not around it.
If you can get the car high enough on stands, undo the hoses and drop the rack to gain access to the switch. It's a devil to remove with the rack in the car, but it can be done. Save yourself some time and frustration by buying a cheap spanner (not sure if 14mm or 9/16), bending it 30 degrees and shortening it by a third. There's a pic in this thread: post1226499.html I tried everything else (completely destroyed the switch with vice grips and cold chisel), and it was the only thing that worked. While it's leaking, don't let the pump run dry or it's toast. Have fun. A related question: Why do the 6's have the P/S switch and (some) V8's don't? If it's not necessary, why have it at all? Can you just plug it and do without?

Yeah you are right stoping the leak is not possible. I read in a few threads that driving without the switch is not a problem you may need a bit more fuel because the switch regulates this and that the engine is does not stall (what ever this means). I also thought about filling it up with glue so should nothing come out.
But i have now a new one so i just have to get the old one out. No i don't let the pump run empty, i was just joking ^^ cheers |
