I have a 72 galaxie that among other things I will eventually fit a bigger alternator to. I have already installed a new stereo and have a better set of lights pencilled in for obvious reasons (candles). A set of mid 70 fairlane/LTD elec seats ae there to be fitted and some leccy windows one day would be nice so the OEM 55 amp alternator will need to go. After looking under the bonnet of the wifes EL, that has a 110 amp unit but also the serpentine belt to so the drive would need to be swapped. Is this possible as there would be a lot of these around and should be cost effective. Is the wiring able to be sorted also or is there a better item out there that would match up better? This is in the X series as everything else on it p/steering and aircon look like vintage 70's ford.

Talk to your local auto elec, but I have used the bosch alternator from an XF on a few coversions. It uses the normal v belts, has the internal reg, and iirc it is available in up to around 110 amps, maybe more. Should be pretty easy to fit too. Good luck.

Thats beautiful. Thanks. I take it I should be looking for an item off a car with all the electrics like a fairmont/lane etc? How much would a wrecker sting me for one of those, or are new ones reasonably priced? I'll have a look at evilbay today in any case.

Just get a new one, and ask for the highest output they have.
