waiting for the write up

Had to share this with an appreciative audience.
Got stuck behind a line turning right, waited for a gap in the left lane, and ducked into it. Found out the guy I went behind had a car trailer
was dark and his running lights weren't the best.
we called it a wash and went our separate ways.

driving home afterwards (about 3km) I noticed the steering wheel was about 90 degrees from where it should have been, figured must have bent something and needed a wheel alignment or some new tie rods at worst (and I just happened to have a spare). So i figured I'd be able to get that done in the morning before a funeral at 11:30.

Things were not quite as I thought,
It felt "wobbly" the next morning as i took it to the mechanic like it'd turn and I'd have to over correct to bring it back into line, nothing too drastic but not awesome.

Turns out it was a little more severe than I thought.

yeahp snapped the steering rack in half, what makes it worse is it was a reco unit installed about 4 months ago
Still the guys at armor automotive in cambridge park were great, gave me a loaner car to get to the funeral, and when I got back at around 12:30 (left at 10:30) they had the car ready to go for wheel alignment. They quoted me $500 and billed me $450 when I took it for the alignment rather than them.
I was expecting a 3 day job. I was really blown away by the speed it was done with and can't heap enough praise on them.
(Unlike the mob who did my exhaust, damn thing is loudest at 2K RPM and near fell off on the M4, was holding on by one bolt with 3 turns of thread on it when I got to my destination )

theese racks are very easy to change i done one in an hour on a hoist

ooo drivin like that coulda gotten real messy real quik.

Without ramps or a hoist and having the right tools go walkingbout out the garage makes the job a bastard

it might be a farily quick job to do, but you don't imagine you can rock up at a mechanic at 10 in the morning and they will have gotten a reco rack in and fitted it by 12:30.

I changed my steering rack at home with the car up on two chassis stands.

Quite a straightforward job.

Still need a wheel alignment though LOL


And two new tires now oops.
