Hi all
I have been having a little think and seeing as though the dollar is so good at the moment it might be time for me to slip a stick into the Maverick.
At the moment it is a 5.0 with GT40P heads , extractors and 3" single exhaust , Performer RPMII manifold with 70mm throttle body and AU MAF.
The truck spends most of its time between 2500 and 6000 RPM so with the manifold the cam matches in that respect.
I am after something that has better mid range torque and more top end then the standard HO cam and the lumpy idle is definately a draw card.
Hoping to get a cam that will run ok with a stock tune until I get some stuff finished off and can get the proper tune done that has been organised.
Being a bit of a pudding below 2500 isnt a real issue as the truck is geared that low in first and second its always well over 2500RPM pretty much all the time.
So is a E303 the smart choice or is there better available?

The cam will work well for everything you've described you want it for, bar the running on stock tune part. The tight 110deg LSA makes it hard for the ECU to work with. I have only ever run this cam in mine with the ECU tuned to suit.
Something with similar duration, and even more lift, with a wider LSA will work better, just wont have as much of a mid range punch like the E-303.
May be worth looking at the XE270HR-14 or the likes.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I thought the XE270HR was a fairly huge kind of cam.
I also have a Speed Pro CS1177R sitting here that could be used but I have been told by many people its way too big for my application.
Whats your thoughts?

Yeah i remember you asked about that cam awhile ago, from memory it was way too big.
The XE270HR-14 is fairly mild, on a 114LSA, from memory lift is .514/.514 and duration at .050 something around 216/224... I think it may be designed for 1.7 rockers though.

Cheers. I shall keep looking around and see what I can come up with.
I will look more into the XE270HR.

As said above, go with a cam with lobe separation 112-114° to keep it ecu friendly. The GT40P's airflow flat-lines from about 525 lift, so no point exceeding that. Duation at 050 anywhere up to about 220° will keep a stock auto/converter happy. Personally I'd go with a cam designed for stock ratio rockers, then you have a little extra lift & duration available if you use 1.7 ratio rockers.

Ok I have just looked at the cam card I have here for the cam I have sitting on the floor at the moment.
I am still getting on the tech side of all the cam numbers so bear with me but a lot of it is looking very similar to whats being recommended.
The Mav is a manual too so I dont have to worry about a convertor.
Distance between lobe centres 112 degrees
1.6:1 Rocker Ratio
Duration at .050 Intake 222 Exhaust 232
Maximum Lift Intake 107 @TDC
Valve Lift Intake .509 Exhaust .532

Lift is a little higher then recommended but whats the thoughts?

Its quite heave on the duration @ .050", wouldnt do alot in the lower-mid RPM's, would have a strong top end, especially with a better flowing cylinder head/intake manifold.
From the description of what you want, its abit too big. Keep that duration down to the 220 mark as xafalcon said...
