I tend to agree with this - a tyre place is probably okay for check alignments, but major changes like springs, etc is better with a specialist - plus they'll be able to advise you. I've had alignments done with the local Bob Jane - it's usually a toe in/out adjustment, as they 'don't have' the shims to adjust castor/camber, 'we do have them on order' - my count on this has been 18mths - 2 yrs. I do write down castor/camber specs beforehand, and luckily they are usually within spec. The aligners I've talked to have no idea on the Falcon SLALS suspension - they just look at the settings on the computer. I'm not sure if this is typical of tyre outlets, but it is my experience. Agree also with checking alignment with the factory upper suspension arm pivots - unless someone can advise definitely that you need aftermarket items. The bolded section is how they knock out 4-5 "alignments" an hour! they are Toe and Go.

I usually get alignments done at Pedders, whenever I have had them done at Tyre places, they are a toe alignment only, and I always ended up getting the inside edge of the tyres scrub out rather quickly. Since getting alignments at Pedders, no further issues with excessive tyre wear.
I have a camber kit in my EB Ghia, which is a shim type, due for replacement soon. Cheers ToranaGuy

At the moment I will get the car checked out with its alignment and camber then will decide if I do need a kit or not... |

You shouldn't need one. If you do id be checkingg your front end bushes and ball joints/ tie rods/ rack ends to makesure the problem isn't there.

if you lower it far enough. the factory bolts won't be long enough, thus not giving enough adjustment and you'll still scrub out tyres

Ok guys so today I went and had a front end alignment on the car done and this is what I got back for the camber angles.....
-1.3° (Left side) -1.65° (Right side) Camber for all vehicles except xr6's is -0.5° to 0° (Max variation L to R is 1°) The xr6's are -1.75° to -0.75° ( Max variation L to R is 0.75° ) I am currently running a set of Super Low springs on the front with standard shock absorbers and 18" rims with tyres profiles of 235/40/18... here is the question would I now use the xr6 camber angles as my guide - and if so I am ok. Or do I really need to fit a camber kit. The alignment place said if I was to fit a camber kit I would need to get the front guards lipped as well. |

Last time I had an alignment done I was setup to be @ Xr6 specs, as I was running on lows at the time, with short stroke shocks. Now I'm on ultralows I really need to get a new alignment, as it's got more neg camber than I'd like atm, but it stays in a straight line pretty good.... lol.

For a street car, I'd like to see camber angles down around -1° to 1.25°. That said, I run more camber than that myself, I sit with about -2° front and -3.5° rear. This is because I really don't care about tyre wear, and my car does get driven enthusiatically.
