hey chaps, my EF broke down tonight about 10k from home. It lost power, I managed to park it the engine was loosing revs and it cut out and now won't start. Is it the fuel pump? Thanks : )

When you turn ignition on can you hear it running for a few seconds? And does it seem really loud as nd vibrates badly? Have you got good spark from the coil? Could be the ecu or fuel pump relay if you dont have power to the pump?

'sometimes' apparently giving the fuel tank a good smack with a blunt instrument can get it going again, confirming this is the issue. I'm told the nrma used this technique on my sisters vn & i've heard of other similar scenarios.
When mine went it went, after a big thursday night of 'sprited driving' with like minded individuals, on the way home it died on me. When I pulled over my extractors were glowing red. Lucky I had a new one at home, had it delivered and changed the pump on the side of the road at 3am just to drive half hour home and get up at 4:30 to go to work lol fun times.

ha thanks for the replies. I can't hear a thing from the pump when I switch the ignition. The engines just cranks over with no life when I try to start it. I'm getting a new pump from Bursons tomorrow, I'll chage it in the morning. If that does'nt work I will probably kill myself...

If that doesn't work it could be the relay. They have been known to fail. Replacing a fuel pump with an un-known age in an older car is never a bad thing.

sorry to bore ya'll with my questions. I put a new fuel pump in this morning & you can hear it run for a couple of seconds (although it's a much quieter dull sound than the original) when switching the ingnition, but the car still just cranks over with no sign of firing. If i can hear the pump run, it won't be the relay? Should I be looking at the coil pack F**k? thanks.

sounds like it could be the coil mate, same thing happened to my EL both pump and coil went at same time. give the coil a change and shuld b right

thanks guys, you are helpfull creatures for sure...It will be the coil I think...I don't think it's the BCM this time, although that will be the next crisis to pop up, ha

Turns out the fuel pump I bought from Bursons doesn't work. I joked that because it was made in China the phucking thing wouldn't work and it doesn't lol. The original was a VDO unit. So much stuffing around. Thanks for the help anyway.

When mine died we hit this with a rubber mallet to get it home haha. My old man was in the back seat with the seat reclined down for access to the boot and was hitting the top of the fuel pump whilst i was driving it home, he got tired every now and then and the car stuttered and nearly stalled a few times hahah.
