okay before i get bombarded with response such as do a search and what not i did and and cant seem see any threads with the answers to the problems i am having. okay hear we go, so i got my project ute a 4L xg running and driving went over the vitals found water in the oil so removed the head got it check repaired and shaved proceeded to put it back together and wont crank properly checked all terminals decided to go through and replace all to no avail then came a new main earth cable still wont crank properly went through and tried other new batteries even a 720cca battery tried 2 other good starter motors pulled the intake mainfold off and went through all wiring it cranks alot better now but itemmitedly it will go from cranking fine to terrible and if i use a smaller batter (other then the 720cca) ie at 550cca battery it barely cranks at all i really frustrated i dont why its doing it any help would be appreciated cheers kyle

Sounds strange to me.


My first guess is valves vs. pistons.

Anyways Have you tried to crank the engine with 'Just' the battery only?
