Hi,

This question may ghave been asked before so here it goes again.

Each time I go over a speedbump or similar I get a noticeable squeak from under the car.

I would assume it has something to do with suspension rubbers.

I'm relatively new to AU Series II, can someone let me know where to start looking for this rubber so I can replace it or stop the squeak getting worse.

The annoying squeak happens when I approach and depart the speedbump or hump.

Would it be shock absorber rubbers or do I look elsewhere for it?

Cheers.

Yeah thanks, I already have but nothing specific addressing what I was seeking. I'll do another trawl later on.

Theres not a great deal under these cars as far as bushes go. Get a fat friend to push the car up and down while your underneath it and have a listen for where its coming from. My bet is sway bar bushes or rear control arm bushes. Oh yeah, dont forget to give the exhaust pipe a wriggle too.

No worries,

I've found some discussion about bushes etc, so will try them out.

Is the noise front or rear? if rear, ensure the shocks are done up f**k Tight, and then some!

Noise is from front and rear when going over bumps. Shocks are original from day one.

Squeaking noise is not readily heard when bouncing vehicle up and down using hand, if it was shocks then one would think it would be heard whilst vehicle is bouncing stationary.

So f**ked if I know.

cheers

My ef had noises in the rear, I replaced the shocks and its fine now, it only made it while driving though, it sounded terrible on every small bump in the road

similar thing happens in my ba.
is the car lowered??
is it after a rainy day your noticing the noise?

if yes to the first or both of these questions then its most likely the bump stops rubbing. i haven't found a way to deal with it but the problem goes away and i never deal with it for more then a few days, i suppose a dry lub could eliminate the sound.

Ok.

I have narrowed down the problem, I had my vehicle checked by Pedders Suspension in Brisbane. They reckon I have a front shocky thats leaking oil and yes oily and worn bump stops...also sagged springs as well as upper ball joint worn..

I jacked the car up when I got home....both shockies (strut type) are monroe gas so buggered if I know what oil leak..I could not find any.

I rocked the vehicle up and down and yes, can confirm the noise comes from the shocks, probably worn rubbers and shocks are original so they have not been touched for 10 years I would think.

The rear axle is live and not IRS, chances are those shocks and springs are worn also.

The vehicle is standard, has not been raised or lowered (to my knowledge)

Maybe pedders was trying to create work for themselves at big cost to me...I'll do the job myself.

The rear is a challenge though.

Do I need anything special to remove and replace springs?

Thanks

Can get a pair of coil spring compressors from Supercheap for probably $30. Everything you need to know is in the Haines or Gregorys manual. Will need a jack and stands - which it sounds like you already have. I did the fronts on my EF without trouble. If an accountant like me can do it with no previous experience, anyone can do it.

Thanks for letting me know about the coil spring compressor. I almost forgot about that one.

Cheers
