I have a spare maf to suit my standard injectors, but on closer inspection I found that one of the hotwires has come off the poles its meant to be attached ,its not broken just dismounted.
Can I solder it back in place, or will the solder not be heat resistant enough
for this task??
it just looks too easy to fix! so it cant be

I doubt it because the MAF wires run pretty hot, its just a question if they run hot enough to melt the solder.

that was my main concern too but they run at 200 degC i believe..but if i use a high tin content maybe the melting point will be higher.
its just a spare but if it s f**k its not worth taking up storage space in cupboard.
whe the ignition is turned on should the mafs be hot??if so this might be a good test.

It heats as soon as you turn the engine on, it only takes a second or so so you will know pretty much straight away. The other problem I see is that even with high temp solder, it may not stand up to the constant heat cycles and vibrations. I don't think its worth it really unless you are stuck and need the sensor.

Yeah the hotwire is kept at 200deg above the temp sense wire...

Depending on solder, i think melting point anywhere between 150deg and 300deg....

If you give it a shot, do plenty of testing before actually starting the engine... i shudder at the thought of solder making its way into the combustion chamber...
