hey i have an eb falcon with an open wheeler
i also have an lsd from a fairmont ghia(bit loose) am i better off welding my open ...or rebuilding the lsd what would it cost to reshim the lsd.... how involved is it.... |

Call up some diff shops and get quotes but youl probably be looking at around 1000 at a guess for an LSD. if you dont know what your doing you wont be able to do it yourself, you need specialist tools and knowledge. Dont weld the open diff, it will suck to drive. not to mention the tyre wear.

what is the car used for? skids or everyday driving with an occasional skid? if it's the first option get a mini spool. don't weld. if it's a daily, rebuild a LSD

why not weld - it'll do the same job as a spool and be alot cheaper!
agree if its daily get an LSD

You could start by putting this in the correct section.

dont welded diffs tend to s**t emselves fairly quikly anyway?

Welded diffs break so easy because of something similar to the peltzman effect I reckon...
Scenario.. Ooh, I have a welded diff. It'll spin 2 wheels easily now!! Let's test it... WAAH DAAH DAAH, SCREEECH!!, woo hoo, it works.. Now I'm gonna do this EVERY CHANCE I GET!!!!... Do that 10 times and you have a busted a** diff... Go easy on the shock force, if you practice and get your take off right it'll make a huge difference in a straight line...traction is at max, Be ready for scrubbed tyres from tight turns tho..

Depending on how well my mate welded it...
He had a diff welding stage with his XE, went through about 6-8 that I know of, I helped him with a couple, and went or a few drives. That's the only real experience I have of them, other than stories. Keeping it short, my point seemed pretty clear in the first post, just keep it easy, and have a working spare waiting ready to bolt in when it dose break I'm only talking about streetability here too.
