I have just bought some pipework (part No. BAF2 7H420) to replace a water diverter (part No. 18495). Ford have quoted $330 to remove the old part and replace with the new. This seems excessive to me and would like to hear from anyone who has done this mod and any difficulties encountered. Thanks

After doing this at home I would say that is a good price as you have to remove the intake manifold to get the pipe work out from behind the block. I'm assuming they are including a new intake gasket in that price.

I just spoke to our Service dept and they quoted my about 1.5 hours.
Did you also buy the 2 hoses? You should have gotten
BAF2 7H240 A $68.60, hoses BAF2 7H256 A and BAF2 7H255 A $16.85 each

They may be quoting to replace Coolant and other goodies. I have been told that you should be able to get at the pipe from underneath?

It probably could be done from underneath if you had it on a hoist but if doing it at home it is dam awkward to get at it from below.

Hi Guys, and thanks so far, yes I did also receive the two rubber hoses.
I have been under the car again and had a closer look, I can't for the life of me understand why the metal pipework has to be replaced, there is already the original metal pipework there, all I can see to be required is remove the old diverter and connect two flexible hoses to the existing pipework then to the transmission cooler, which is all the replacement bits are doing anyway.
Am I missing something?
Seems like it should only be a half hour job and a few bucks for some flexible hose. Are Ford just ripping us off?

Transmission/Gearbox cross member has to be removed.

It's a fair bit of work involved. Exhaust has to come off, inlet can stay on.

2 - 3 hours work + you should get your cooling system properly flushed & also get the radiator cleaned out professionally by a radiator specialist.

Chances are that corrosion bits would of got stuck in the radiator etc, i had the fun task of doing this job as well. Not a good idea but slowly enough you will do it.
