{USERNAME} wrote: yeah, but would that do the footwell lights and stuff? No. but if they are LED's the power drain will be very small. I thought the main concern were the overhead lights.{USERNAME} wrote: I figured that if there was a single point (the headlight switch) to turn them all on together.. then there should likewise be a way to turn them all off together. The headlight switch acts like another courtesy light switch. With your setup, the -ve line of the lights is connected to the central controller, footwells. steer column, all 4 door switches, then runs the RHS of the vehicle, then upwards on the RHS of the rear parcel shelf. So it has a fair distance, but does meander around.
To turn lights on, very easy, earth anywhere along that line - to turn them off, you need to break the line at a common point for all lights, unfortunately, not that easy. The EF/EL setup, all door switches connect to one line, which goes to the BEM, so you put your switch in that area, as previously mentioned, so this one is very easy. Be interesting to see how this is dealt with in pre EF police vehicles.

If there is a fuse in the panel for all interior lights.. I could just branch in behind that....

If pulling the CRT LP fuse works, couldn't you just put a switch in from the fuseblock?
Short of that, it'd be a f**k, but wire it straight into the four door sensors that are part of the body?

just put in a switch in after the fuse within the fuse box itself
some cutting and joining but nothing to hard |

The only problem with the CRT LP fuse is that you might lose the clock settings and/or stereo settings - test it and see. I'm assuming you used the existing power for the overhead unit - so this will lose any settings (if any) as well.
IMO fitting a switch is a waste of time - you can just undo the 2 phillips heads for each door switch, pull them and let them hang. You don't need to have all 4 doors open, do you ???

I believe it does the radio and interior lights, in smartlock cars it, also will prevent you starting, but you've got an ea which is pre smartlock isn't it?
The other option is just maybe set a littlle alarm, and turn it over for a couple miutes every half hourr or so to charge it. Guess it all depends what your doing.

ok, if it's smartlock and radio, I might be able to use it... I can get accessories and continious from elsewhere and I don't have smartlock.. well, my ECU does, but it's bypassed.
then i can put a switch in.. |

have you tried to take off the A pillar trim I,d say drivers side and see if the wires that up to the interior lights are there and get a test light to see which 1 sets it off with the doors open

Hi bldnut01
yes, that would likely work, however it would not turn off the footwell lights or the one on the back of the console. rgds Frank |

I never did explain why I wanted this..
I got lucky in the back of the EA a long time ago... I was way too big to close the back doors.. so with my legs sticking out the door and the dozen or so ghia lights on.. my a** was lit up like a xmas tree... trying to go at it while keeping your toe on the door switch doesn't work either. |
