alright let's not go into detail upon how i acquired this

but it's a problem, that i am to fix.
my question, what do i need to prep it for paint, my supply outlet will the the local autobarn (or supercheap) and while i'm at it, i might have a go at fixing up some stone chips on my bumper and keymarks on the door.
i'm under the impression that all i'll need is sanding supplies, body filler, primer, paint and clear.
will i have to buff it to even it out afterwards? and will a woolen gyro buffer pad do for that?
also, i'm getting the paint color matched at autobarn (unless refferred better), will a spray can do a decent enough finish?

You'll spend $100 on prepwork and paint and it'll still look crap from a can.

I'd keep my $100 and run around to DIY wreckers until a cleaner one comes up.

Prepping material can be cheap, I think I spent $30 for body work stuff. Get some latex gloves as well...wet/dry sand paper + skin is never good...you won't feel any pain until your skin is gone.

Paint, best to get an air compressor and spray gun rather than spray cans. Spray cans won't do the job you want, it will make it look out of place and funny. Best to get some practice on some spare panels...or find yourself a cheap rear bumper and practice/start on that while you drive around with your existing one. Paint can be expensive. Also, don't mix acrylic with enamel paint.

In saying that, it all comes down to preparation. With enough preparation, paint out of a can, can actually come out pretty good. I'll use my race bike as an example...I must say it came out pretty well for a whole lot of spray cans for a first attempt. Also, you need a lot of patience and repition work when painting...if you don't like to watch paint dry/grass grow or repeat sanding...you can make things worse by rushing it.
