Hey guys, well I need to replace my front lower control arm bushes and was wondering how/more what tool I need to access the giant nut on the lower balljoint connecting it to the lower arm?? Car is EB II 6cyl btw.
I have a sidchrome socket set metric/imperial that goes up to 19mm, that doesn't do the job. Looks to be the same size nut that holds the shocker to the lower arm. What size is it, and what tool should I get for the job? A 21mm ring spanner??? Also are the lower control arm bushes I'm replacing located where the shock tower bolt connects or where the lower arm connects to the k frame? Cheers. |

The lower ball joint nut should be 21 or 22mm.
The bushes would be the ones that connect to the K frame

Hey thaks mate
All the bolts are off but I can't seem to separate the thread that holds the lower ball joint onto the lower arm, is it meant to be seized?? My manual says it should just unbolt. It's stuck on both sides of the car, what should I do? |

You need to shock the taper of the ball joint loose from the lower arm. like tierod ends

Where the tie rod end goes thru the steering knuckle, get a 2kg sledge hammer, and give the steering knuckle a bloody good whack at that spot. The tie rod should just drop free with a couple of hard hits. Usually takes me two or three good hits.

Cheers guys, never done front suspension before and wasn't exactly sure what a taper was exactly lol. I bought the ball joint removal tool and just used it to remove the lower ball joint thread from the lower arm and got them off, tie rods should be a bit easier than those hopefully, one side was fine but the other was incredible, I bought the clamp looking ball joint removal tool over the fork and had to put so much force on it the lower arm practically exploded off lol.
I'm about to do the tie rod ends (with the lower arms out of that makes a difference?), and because the lower arms are disconnected I can't put any weight on the suspension (i'd put them back in but they haven't been pressed yet), I heard I need to do it like this as oppossed to the suspension hanging like I currently have it on chasis stands. Is this true?? If it was my old car I'd just do it but I want to make sure the wheel alignment is as close as possible as it's all jsut been redone. EDIT: Nvm, I forgot I asked this question in my other thread yesterday and it's all clarified, thanks!! |
