Gday all
Im running a 93 ED and the project for today was just to swap the existing after market head unit with a new one. i pulled it out and disconnected it from the loop. then i disconnected the Pos line from the battery and begun my splicing. stripped the tips of the wires, attached a spade terminals to all the wires and HU loom. re-attached everything (including the pos line). and then no bingo. so i rang an auto sparky and he said second turn the key and close the door for 30 mins. SUCCESS....until the car is turned off again. then i have the same problem again. during this time the head unit gets not light. (havent got a multi to test it) any ideas as to why im having no luck? |

headunit should function as normal during the 30 mins... Sounds like you've upset something you shouldn't have...
This is why I hate cutting factory plugs off... For the $15 or $20 an aerpro adaptor plug costs it saves hassles like this... Check all your fuses... Primarily interior light and wiper fuse because both these fuses power circuits which feed into the smartlock module... If that is fine and it isn't wiring... Then either the module is damaged or the barrel has failed... Cheers, Tim

ok so it should be a fuse then because now we get now interior lights. as far as the plug goes, it is still there and the last person had just put their wires in singly. where are the fuses in the bay, i didnt see them glancing over? thanks againg for your help fellas

Ones in the engine bay are main ones... You'll have more than just starting issues if you blow them and if you do blow them something major has caused it... Actually called fusible links too...
The fuses you're searching for are in the car above your right knee when you're sitting in the drivers seat... Next time I'd invest in an aerpro plug... The come labelled and colour coded and you can't short anything out if you have indeed blown the interior light fuse... Cheers, Tim
