Well things arent going so well. At least i can still get around on gas.
For a while the leaning out seemed to only happen after startup for a while but now it is doing it when cruising at 100km/h. And then only sometimes. Went to Bendigo sat arvo and it cruised for about 20 mins on petrol without any problems and then on the way home i couldnt even do it for two minutes with out it playing up. Was just over at the mechanics and we are stumped. Its got nothing to do with the fuel system. Injectors are fine, fuel pressure is fine, fuel pump is fine everything running smooth...except it still leans out. Its very intermittent. Sometimes you will get 100m down the road sometimes only 10m. Have also blocked vacuum leaks, checked MAP sensor.. Anyone got any ideas? We were considering it being the WBO2 maybe. Something with the NBsim that the ECU is reading? But the gas system reads that too and it runs fine.. |

A bit of an update for this thread.
Havent got very far with solving it. Still leans out. The whole fuel system is fine with no problems. May have narrowed it down to being the oxy sensor. have the wideband but swapped the NB back and the car didnt like that. put the wideband back in and talked to my mechanic who has been doing the work. He suggested that it might be the response time of the O2 signal getting to the ECU. Apperently its usually a pretty quick response time between the oxy sensor and the ECU but in mine it goes through: WBO2-WB controller-NBsim-Gas ECU-OEM ECU. They are all connected in sequence so could be causing a slow reaction and leaning out? Dont really know what else it could be. Im swapping in a GRA kit soon so wont need the oxy sensor to got to the gas ecu so it might fix the problem. |

Are you running a J3 chip, if so it could be coming loose in the ecu. Also the LPG system doesn't use vacuum to adjust anything only the spark table gets adjusted by the ECU, possible map sensor on the way out because it only seems to play up on petrol. Have you pulled fault codes? I would be checking that 1st before spending any money replacing bits.

Ive got a J3 but not running it yet.
Checked the MAP sensor and it was working fine. Dont know if they pulled any fault codes or not but they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it. Runs fine on gas still. |

You can pull the fault codes yourself which is very straight forward. Behind the fuse panel cover in the d/s of the dash is a white diagnostic port. You will need a ordinary female blade type electrical joiner to bridge the top and bottom 2 pins on the far left hand side (passenger side) of the plug. Then get a suitable female joiner to plug into the 5th pin in from the top left of the plug. Hook that wire up to a LED light for best results, and earth the light as the signal from the diagnostic plug is a positive signal. The first codes are hard faults and may be repeated so the code is read out twice. Then a pause a single flash and then the intermittent fault codes will flash up. The back of a haynes or similar manual should have the codes and their description. let me know if you run into troubles or get stuck and i can run u thru the process. The codes will give you a definite idea of what the issue is if its sensor related.

You can disconnect the O2 sensor altogether and the car should run fine - sometimes a little rich but fine. If this doesn't solve your problem then it lies elsewhere, there should be no issue with "signal delays".

Ill check the codes when i get home from work later on and see if it brings any up.
I wasnt sure if there could be any delays in signals or not. Will also try disconnecting the O2 sensor and if its still running funny then thats another thing ruled out. Is it fine to just leave the sensor in the exhaust? wont carbon up or anything too quick if unpowered? |

Tried getting codes out but didnt get much.
Seemed like I was doing it right but kept getting code 521 PSP Failed open and not much else. Something about turning the steering wheel which I did a bit but it didnt change anything. |

Possibly the Intake Air temp sensor is playing up when on petrol.

hey man had similar problem on mine thought it was injectors but ended up being air flow sensor take it out and have a look there should be two thin metal wires. mine were coated in thin black layer which was making car run so so bad. can get a cleaner for it, CRC makes cant remember the name though i just used normal CRC and it worked fine cleaned them up good and runs perfect. Check it out before you try anything else its probably just that!

Check it out before you try anything else its probably just that! 6 cyl falcons dont have a air flow sensor... they use a map sensor... |
