Went to take off my spare wheel to discover my ute doesnt have the little chain mechanism which lowers the spare wheel down so does anyone know where i could find that? looks takky carrying a spare wheel in my tub with a strap around it haha

Comes with the mechanism bolted to the rear x member. You can still buy them new EHC 1A131 A $222.00 or, you could go the way of the wreckers as they are the same unit from XH to FG utes.

the factory ford ones are useless.
The cables wear fast and bind up, this has happend in both my XH and my dads BA.

A better option is to get a winch from a rodeo or similair with a chain winch. There cheaper and easier to find but will need some custom work.
