Hi all,
I think I may have done the head gasket (or worse) on my 4l XG... Im changing thermostat and radiator over as we speak because of my "positive" attitude (that just costs more $$$).

If it turns out to be the head im stuck on what to do, as I have these options;
$330 head job, shave off 40thou and refit with au gasket to boost compression.
Or,
$1200/$1600 jmm race spec head, big valves, cam, port pollish etc...
Or,
Complete xr6 motor from wreckers, with ecu, $650, inc altenator, bbm, everything.

???

Thanks heaps.

skim the head, run AU MLS gasket (no need to take 40thou off) in fact its better not too.

JMM will liven the car up.

and

$650 is too much imo for a XR6 motor that'll prolly need a gasket in the future anyways.

or

you could pick up an AU long motor for around $120 from a DIY wreckers.

Thanks a tonne,
I think my mind was heading where your suggesting too...
Ive been given better torque specs and told to shave 40thou by a trusted head guy...
Could you ellaborate a bit on why please?
