I've just changed the oil in my EL Ghia. Before I did the oil pressure was sitting about 1/2 way on the guage. I dont know what oil was in it. Its got 288,000ks on it and Penrite recommended HPR 30 for it, so thats what I put in it. The oil pressure now is quite near the top just over the 2nd last white line before the orange.
Is it normal for it to be that high? Or have Penrite recommended the wrong oil? Should I drop that oil and put in HPR 15? |

You might have put a bit too much in.
For older engines they recommend a lighter weight oil to newer ones. I use 20W50 in mine and seems to be fine, but mine hasn't done half as many kilometers as yours |

It's fine. As long as it isn't into the red/orange section of the gauge, nothing is wrong.

It's Not a matter of how much oil you put in but of the viscosity of the oil as new oil has a thicker viscosity than used oil as long as you keep the oil at the correct level everything is OK.
Sorry Wrong topic

IMO the HPR 30 is a bit thick for the Windsor. Even with 280k on the engine, the Windsors like fairly thin oil, I would look at something more like 20w50 or you could go even thinner.

My Ghia has 106K on the clock and I changed the oil to Penrite 10W. The oil pressure guage remained at the same spot as before which was around the 10 o'clock position. I believe your guage is much the same.

i use Penrite HPR30, its fine. The lower viscosity oils are really meant for more moden OHC and DOHC engines of smaller capacity, the windsors old school OHV is more suited to thicker oils, especially older high km engines.

Ford recommend 15w 40 from factory from memory
How is the factory gauge calibrated 0 = what, 7 = what. My EB XR8 sits between the first white line and halfway between the second and third

As per my thread on relation to faulty oil pressure guage, when i sorted the problem out, i picked up 2 white lines and now it sits just below the orange section, so i have no idea what or how the damn thing is supposed to work
